🌿 **Exciting News from Sompting Wildlife Rescue!** 🌿

At Sompting Wildlife Rescue, we are fortunate to have a dedicated team of trustees who help us make the best decisions for our charity. Alongside Gayle and Pete, we have three other trustees who provide invaluable guidance and support.

One of our trustees, Liz, has been living her lifelong dream in Zambia, working with wildlife rescue and specializing in elephants. We are incredibly proud of her dedication and the amazing work she is doing.

On her last return home, Liz brought back beautiful craft items made by different communities in Zambia. We are thrilled to announce that we will be partnering with them to sell these unique handmade items. Not only will these items make wonderful gifts for friends and family, but they will also help raise funds for both our rescue efforts here in Sussex and the local communities in Zambia. The proceeds will support local wildlife AND support women’s groups and help start new initiatives in Zambia. Two for the price of one, you could say!

Please show your support by purchasing these special items and helping us make a difference both locally and globally. Stay tuned for more details on our website soon!

Thank you for your continued support! 💚

Unique handmade, individual handbags from ZAMBIA!!  Why buy something mass produced from a chain store when you can support a women’s group?!

These wonderful individually made bags are made in ZAMBIA by members of women’s groups affiliated with the Centre for Zero Waste & Development in Africa. In Zambia, we have helped many communities set up groups that can work together to find alternatives to subsistence farming. We currently work in the Serenje district of Zambia but have also set up projects in Lusaka and other more remote areas.

WHY BUY A BAG? Let the ladies themselves explain!

“My name is Selina Phiri, the Chairlady for Mapalo Women's Club from Serenje, District. Give to thanks to The Centre for Waste & Development in Africa for providing this Crocheting and Upcycling training to us. The training has helped us to acquire various skills which are important to create sustainable businesse. We hope we can produce more of these bags with its profits to help support our kids in schools and further provide food to our families. “

“I am Mary Shimpande from Serenje, a single mum and a member of the CZWDA in Africa where we are learning a number of skills around Upcycling & Repurposing. These skills are important to me as a single mum because they can tremendously transform our livelihoods and reduce poverty. I am thrilled to have produced the first bag and hoping it brings more opportunities.”

“I am Tamara Kalunga a member of Mapalo Women's Club from Serenje and recently graduated from high school. The skills I've learnt from this training will enable me to produce and sell more bags and at the same time support my dream of attaining college. I also commit myself to further support more people with these skills I have acquired.”

These lined, crocheted  handbags are just one of the items they sell to raise funds.

Please support them by purchasing a bag today!!
